Role overview

Uber is home to one of the largest and most unique insurance programs in the world and insurance data lies at its foundation. We're looking for an experienced manager to lead our critical insurance data infrastructure. This will involve everything from designing new data models and improving existing data processes to expanding the scope of the data program to support Uber's ever-growing portfolio. This team works cross-functionally to ensure our data processes align with industry best practices and stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 3 to deliver projects on time with high quality
  • Design comprehensive quality checks to facilitate accurate analyses and to ensure Uber's insurance data meets compliance standards
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to build and improve on the availability, integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data logging and data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to manage project intake, roadmap, prioritize, and manage staffing against key initiatives
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including actuaries, engineers, program managers, and data scientists to identify challenges and opportunities for insurance data models

Basic qualifications

  • M.S. or Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, big data frameworks (ex. Hadoop, Spark)
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python preferred)
  • Experience with Excel and some dashboarding/data visualization (ex. Tableau)

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building/maintaining SOX compliant control data environment
  • Basic understanding of insurance concepts and working with insurance loss data
  • Experience with an ETL framework like Airflow
  • Project management skills - Ability to drive projects end-to-end
