AI Engineer
Role overview
The AI Engineer is responsible for building AI-powered applications and systems that use foundation models, language models, enterprise data, tools, and business workflows to drive business outcomes. They are focused on designing reliable, secure, and maintainable AI solutions. The AI Engineer understands that the quality of AI systems depends on model capabilities, context, tools, evaluation, integration, and operational control.
Responsibilities
- check_circle Design and implement AI-powered applications and agentic workflows;
- check_circle Engineer model interaction layer, including instructions, context, retrieval, grounding, memory, tool use, and API/function calling patterns;
- check_circle Build and maintain AI application harnesses, evaluation datasets, test suites, and feedback loops;
- check_circle Integrate foundation models, APIs, enterprise systems, knowledge bases, and workflow tools;
- check_circle Implement guardrails, human-in-the-loop flows, access controls, auditability, and responsible AI practices;
- check_circle Monitor AI application quality, reliability, latency, cost, usage, and user feedback;
- check_circle Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in foundation models, AI engineering, context engineering, and agentic systems.
Basic qualifications
- Proficiency in Python and/or other software engineering languages;
- Knowledge of LLMs, foundation models, prompt/context engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, tool calling, and agent orchestration;
- Experience with APIs, cloud services, application integration, testing, CI/CD, and observability;
- Understanding software design principles, security, privacy, data governance, and responsible AI;
- Ability to design evaluation harnesses and monitor metrics for AI systems;
- Strong problem-solving and system-thinking skills;
- Strong communication and collaboration skills;
- Ability to translate ambiguous business needs into testable AI behavior;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
